A team of geophysicists from Cornell, Cameroon, and South Africa is using machine learning tools to unearth new information from earthquake data collected by Cornell 15 years ago—providing a lifeline for a scholar whose career was upended by conflict.

With wars unfolding in far-flung places from Ukraine to the Horn of Africa, Cornell faculty are joining with international collaborators at Cornell Global Hubs to understand the organized violence of modern war – and find ways for nations to act together to keep the peace.

Eighty-three graduate students traveled internationally for fieldwork last summer. Applications are open until March 6 for graduate students seeking support for summer 2026.

The idea for a youth climate action project originated in 2023 during the Einaudi Center-led Mandela Washington Fellowship at Cornell.
